A spectacular photo taken at Conway in July 1990

On 22nd July 1990 71000 ran from Crewe to Llandudno Junction with a North Wales Coast Express On board that day were driver Bertie Edwards, fireman Keith Elliot and traction inspector Bill Andrews.
The train consisted of 14 coaches (489 tons) including the dynamometer car.
 
After the run Bill Andrews was to comment "71000 is 300% better now than in the 1950's. It was very hard graft when I worked on it then.The new Kylchap exhaust has altered all that. 71000 burns as much coal as before but now uses it to good effect and  is certainly more powerful"

Sturdy in manufacture it is 2.5" long by 0.75"wide. This key ring has been supplied by the Trust since the early 90's and we have had not one complaint regarding its quality during that period. Indeed when the sales team are at steam galas there are many occasions when visitors to the stand proudly show their Gomms key ring and exclaim "bought this in early 1990 and it is still going strong"
 

 
This key ring is normally sold at the Trust's online shop at £9.00 including postage and packing.

HORNBY AND THE NEW 71000 OO SCALE MODELS

Following recent discussion with Hornby Hobbies, the Trust is pleased to confirm that the new oo scale locomotives and train pack will be available to purchase, from the Trust's trading subsiduary Phoenix Heritage Rail, at discounted prices

It is hoped that the stock will be available sometime in September.

Hornby hobbies are to produce two locomotive models and a train pack.
Details as follows.

Product code R3168 is the railroad version of the locomotive.

The special offer price for this locomotive will be £67 plus £5 delivery charge.

Product code R3191 is a more detailed version with etched nameplates and a high degree of livery detail.

The special offer price for this locomotive will be £96 plus £5 delivery charge
Product code R3192 is a train pack consisting of product code R3191 together with three MK1 coaches specifically designed and produced to perfectly match the "Duke".

The special offer price for the train pack will be £136 plus £7 delivery charge.

Please note all delivery charges are for Uk delivery addresses only. Overseas deliveries will be individually priced.

Please remember that the Trust is a registered charity No 272784 and that ALL  proceeds received from the sale of these locomotives and train set will go towards the upkeep of 71000.
71000 is currently on display at The Crewe Heritage Centre.

CREWE HERITAGE CENTRE FREE ENTRY AN UPDATE
In addition to being able to offer FREE footplate access the Trust is pleased to confirm that the latest Hornby OO scale pre production 71000 models will also be on display near 71000 at the Heritage Centre on Saturday 20th April.
This will the first time that these models have been made available for the general public to view.
Unfortunately we will not be able to be to allow them to be handled as they have to go back to Hornby after the event!

Crewe Heritage Centre Free Entry

Saturday (20th April) sees one of the premiere events  at the Heritage Centre for 2013.
A Railwayana auction of the highest quality.

Entry to the centre on this day is FREE.

To enhance the visitor attraction  the Trust with the help of the Heritage Centre is to offer a "cab 71000" experience.

This is a rare opportunity to be able to access the footplate of the unique British Railways steam locomotive 8P 71000 Duke of Gloucester



 71000 Support crew will be on hand to assist with any questions/queries

There will  also be an oppportunity to purchase  71000 memorabilia items as a souvenir of your experience.

Access to the footplate on this day will be FREE but the Trust hopes that donations towards the next heavy overhaul will be made.

Please note that as the Trust is a registered charity all donations (from taxpayers) qualify for gift aid.

This means that for every pound donated, the Trust can claim back a further 0.20p .

March Update

71000 is currentley within the confines of Crewe Heritage Centre.
The locomotive is due to be inspected in the near future by companies 
wishing to tender for the work required to complete the next 
overhaul.
 
To facilitate the inspection process support crew attended the Heritage 
Centre on Saturday16th March and set about the following:
 
- The firebox tube plate was cleaned, all stay nuts de-cobbed and the grate cleaned.
 
- In the smokebox the spark arrestor was removed.
 
- In addition frames, rods and wheels were all cleaned and all bright metals
were lightly oiled

The previous week saw the new G-SMR radio fitted to the tender by Interfleet.
 
  The opportunity was also taken for a group photograph of support crew.

March 2013 DVD Offer
This month's special offer features our Railway Recollections DVD.
Originally shot by Kingfisher Productions this DVD contains some 
rare footage of 71000 at Barry Island scrap yard and some of the
earlier work at Loughborough. It continues through to include mainline 
runs following the original restoration and then through the second heavy
overhaul. It features 71000 first test run at the the East Lancashire
Railway in 2004 and further main line action. All in all a good coverage 
of 71000 over quite a time scale. Running time aproximately 60 minutes
This DVD is normally sold at the Trust's online shop at £12.50 including 
postage and packing.
